Liver Spots & Cancer

Age spots, brown spots, liver spots or what they are called are often counted as a sign of skin cancer. People are not always aware of the same marks on the skin are different – moles, warts and lentigines are often confused with liver spots (melasma). I will reveal some of the myths about skin liver spots & cancer.

Types of skin Liver spots & cancer

There are three types of Liver spots & cancer. Squamous cell carcinoma and basal cell carcinoma are generated by direct DNA damage, while malignant moles are generated by indirect DNA damage. Moles are the most dangerous of all types of skin cancers with heavy mortality rates of 15-20% and cause 6500 deaths per year in the United States while the first two have a mortality rate of only 0.3%.

The squamous cell carcinoma is usually a red, scaling, thickened patch on sun-exposed skin. Ulcers and bleeding can occur. When SCC is not treated it can develop into a large mass leading to liver spots & cancer. Squamous cell cancer is the second most common skin disease; it is dangerous, but not as dangerous as melanoma.

Most melanomas are small black spots in the research. Signs that might indicate malignant moles include change in shape, size, elevation or color of a mole. Other signs are the appearance of a new mole in adulthood or new pain, itching, ulceration or bleeding.

Liver spots & cancer are connected

It’s a common myth that age spots are automatically a sign of skin cancer. It is certainly not the case. Age spots are very rarely cancerous. In fact, scientific thinking of the liver spots pose no medical problems (except psychological) and are not dangerous in any way. But the skin cells can get even more damaged and cancer later develops (like any other skin liver spots & cancer cells).

Age spots cause cancer

I have often heard that skin cancer is shown to be generated by age spots. This is said because the liver spots were diagnosed as non-cancerous at first, but then later it was diagnosed as melanoma. It would be easy to say that age spots have caused this cancer, but the origin of cancer just happened to be in the same skin cells. This myth is also ungrounded.

Although liver spots & cancer have been proven to have little or no link, you have a higher risk of skin cancer if your skin is over-exposed to the sun. In addition, some marks on the skin are
